How to Get out of Your Own Way
Quite often, we are the biggest obstacle standing in the way of our wildest dreams, goals, and desires. This dilemma doesn’t have to be the case. Read my corresponding poem on this idea, When Will You Get Out of Your Own Way?
How do you get out of your own way? I came up with a few solutions so that you can stop acting as the most astronomical barrier to your success.
Believe That You Are Enough
If you believe that you aren’t enough, it will be hard to reach your aspirations. You are enough! You got this! You have your own unique life story and skill set that the world will appreciate.
Believe that you are enough!
Say it to yourself over and over again, in your head, out loud in the mirror, or before you feel a storm of self-doubt starting to creep in.
YOU ARE ENOUGH!
Quit Procrastinating
I have multiple awards scattered in my room. All of them I earned through procrastinating. Until the day I got fed up with my sh*t. I realized things weren’t working the way I wanted them to, and I needed to start thinking of solutions. I also knew how bad a procrastinator I was.
I thought about starting a blog in my mind years before I stopped wasting time and made a commitment to start working on one. Being miserable for hours at work thinking that a blog might work and coming home and doing absolutely nothing to start one got me nowhere except in the same place I didn’t want to be.
Be Your Biggest Cheerleader
You don’t have to wear a short skirt, but get out those pom-poms and be prepared to shake them nonstop! Not everyone will be supportive of your goals, and that’s okay.
Friends, family, or your boo have their issues to work through. It’s not that they don’t care about and love you, it’s more of the fact that they have a separate life to live outside of you.
They can be wonderfully supportive, but what you need is 24/7 cheerleader. This cheerleader needs to be you.
Don’t shake your pigtails at me! When you feel like you have nothing left to give and your goal is breaking you down, you must pull yourself back up. When you reach a goal, it will feel that much better, because in your heart you’ll know it’s because you never gave up. And once one goal is down, there’s time to conquer another and so on!
GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!
Forget About the Haters
Haters can sip on their hater-aid all they want, and hopefully, it’s grape flavored and worse than the Jolly Rancher grape. If they focused on their own stories, they wouldn’t have half the time or energy to laser in on you. You can even look at it in a super narcissistic light and feel flattered that they seem so enchanted with you and your life.
Roll out your red carpet and put on a grand show for them. You look fab!
Don’t care what they think because you’re way too busy doing you. Whatever your goals are, I’m sure there’s plenty of hard work involved.
Don’t let haters take away your precious energy. Stay focused!
Recognize the Process
Before you reach the top of the mountain, you need to do the climb. You’re going to trip on countless twigs and be breathless because of all the hills. You’re going to get the wind knocked out of you.
But your breath will come back and when it does, keep climbing.
It’s a process to get to where you want to be, and you have to remember that.
New York City wasn’t built in a day, but what an empire it’s become! It can appear that successful people automatically rose to the top. Yet, you aren’t aware of their struggles and before they were prosperous. But I’ll bet on the fact that a majority of them were working their a**es off.
Don’t be discouraged. You most likely haven’t seen the dirty part of their story. You didn’t hear about them isolating themselves during a sunny weekend when all their friends went day drinking or working on their craft during their day job and getting in trouble or worse yet, fired.
Success looks so shiny, but we have to remember that it’s often a gritty process. I’m still trying to drill this into my head. I’m right there with you.
You’re not alone, and I want to help to the best of my ability!
It’s not all Lambos and dollar bills. The process appears to be more like beat-up Toyota Camrys and the dollar menu. Fake fries anyone?
This process applies to any goals you may have, whether it’s educational, entrepreneurial, or personal. Everything comes with a process!
So, a good first step we can all take is to get out of our own damn way and celebrate our triumphs on the countless star roads to success!
